Computing in my shower

Apple iPad MB292LL/A Tablet (16GB, Wifi)


This isn't real yet, but it is realistic.

Does anyone else often find themselves thinking a lot in the shower? What about movies and TV series - I watch heaps and I do it all the time, cause I kinda hate sitting down and doing nothing, but I love it as well. Or maybe it's that I feel I'm doing nothing whilst I'm washing the dishes or taking a shower so I'm bored by that. . . .

ANYWAY! My cool idea (if I do say so myself) is to get some suction pads and a waterproof case for an iPad. Stick it in my shower and watch movies while I bathe (either directly on the iPad or streaming over Wifi from my laptop - all easily achieveable). I mean it's not only TV shows or movies, I often start to plan my day whilst I'm in the shower or think of some neat ideas or things I'd like to do on my holidays and it would be so cool to be able to write something down in Notes or take a water enchanced voice recording of the list of things I want to do today.

I dunno, just seems awesome to me. I just don't have an iPad. And I'm sure this is adaptable to a bath, but I don't have one of those either. . . .

Jailbreak Apps - Voice Control

Given my last post generally discussing the iPhone - I would like to support it's potential.

Here is an awesome feature that I think could be GREATLY improved.

Voice control. 

Maybe this is something that only a few people like - I love it because it's really useful (and safer) when you're driving. Well it's just gotten better - but not thanks to Apple.

There is a fantastic app in Cydia (the jailbreak app store) called VoiceActivator. Very cool app because it expands upon what Apple has basically built into the phone. It makes voice control customisable.

To make this application more useful you can change the way you activate Voice Control instead of holding down the home button for an hour (more like 4s) well there is a jailbreak App that allows you to change the way you do things on your phone such as load Voice Control or change the way unlock your lock screen (i.e. I now load Voice Control by swiping left on my status bar - much quicker). By the way that app is called Activator.

So, if you are a lover of Voice Control, you can now type in the command (i.e. Camera or Note are two that i have) and you can make an application launch or lock your home screen, load contacts or load your keypad ready to type in a number or activate (or deactive) 3G, Wifi, Airplane mode etc. etc. etc.

Hopefully you can see the customisability that I do with this app. And believe me it's not Apple doing the work.

Redmond Pie

So, the iPhone. I've got one, it's my second one. In terms of mobile phones I don't think I've every had one for a very long time. I had a Nokia that lasted a year or two when I was in high school so I don't think the rapid changing (or upgrading) of phones now is that big a difference.... oh wait, my Nokia 3315 cost me $50 6 years ago. My iPhone is worth close to $1000. (BTW - talking AU$ here)


It's crazy isn't it! $1000 for a gadget the size of a pack of smokes. For me though, I love it. It's what I've always dreamed of (not quite) being able to carry everything in your pocket. I can call and msg people - that's what I loved about first getting a mobile phone - but not only can I do that I can take photos of things, check my bank balance, keep all my secret passwords and special health care numbers, bank card details . . . this is starting to sound like I'm an identity fraud case waiting to happen. Anyway, you get the point. I love the internet, and I have it in my pocket now. Hey, and I remember buying a shitty mp3 player for $130 dollars once, I could fit 2 CDs into it. There's another pro about the iPhone.

I'll finish by talking about an aspect of the iPhone which is not so good - the restrictions. It is obviously a marketing ploy to be able to make the iPhone upgradable - software and hardware both included. There is this wonderful world of jailbreaking that is trying oh so hard to bring out the full potential of this amazing device - and it is amazing to be able to do all the things you can on that phone. Jailbreaking opens a wonderful world allowing people to customise their phone they way they want. That's the bottom line. It gives more features to a device that can do much more.

A little bit about everything

I'm going to use this blog to think. I think that's what most people use it as - a medium for thinking when no real people are around to think out loud with. Correct me if I'm wrong. And I think that should be a part of all people, allowing themselves to be corrected when they are wrong, or when another point of view can be given, even if your initial point of view is still right - there is no harm in opening your mind and appreciating what someone else sees out of their eyes.

So today I'm thinking about me and that I'm not really great at any one thing. I don't know a lot about any one thing (except maybe computers, but even then it's simply more than your average Joe, not actual wiz-biz-fiz programing stuff). So my life is a little bit about everything. And that's what I'll talk about.
